Out of Here

Chapter 1: First Meal
----------------------------------

Lorevyceth slunk through the shadows of dragon-parents, aiming for the wall of the hatching sands. The last thing he wanted was to be spotted, and even worse, by some bloody novo with the idea that sharing half his mind was a good idea! He wasn't sure how he knew just what a novo was, or that he had hatched and was meant to 'bond'. All he knew for sure was that he was starving, and that getting interrupted from his task of finding something to eat, and hiding away with it was a bad, bad thing.

So he slunk along the outter rim of the hatching grounds as speedily as his stubby black legs allowed him, keeping his sticky, grey-webbed wings tucked close against his body. With so many people everywhere, it was hard to keep completely from notice, but he kept his head down, and followed his golden, snowflake-flecked and horned muzzle to where he could smell fresh meat.

Inexorably, he was drawn towards the feeding area, and quickly lost himself amongst the many other Flurriers and their new bonds. Lore' snuck up on one dragonet, waited until she paused to speak with her bond, and then snatched her pail of food away, the wooden bowl clamped firmly between his soft teeth. The dragonet snapped her neck around and squeeled in objection, but he let out a relatively low-pitched growl. ~Mine now!~ he projected, shutting the female up with the force of his mental sending.

Satisfied with his victory, he dragged the bowl away, through the crowd of hungry, hungry hatchlings, and finally plopped backwards onto his dark tail. With the greed and gusto only a dragonet could show, Lorevyceth devoured his first meal in moments. When he'd licked the last spatter of blood from the bowl, he lifted his reddened muzzle and searched about for another pair he could rob. He was quite surprised when another bowl appeared in front of him, topped to the brim with more meat. Whipping his black head around, trying to spot the creature behind the teleported pail, Lorevyceth let out another growl.

He sniffed at the meat suspiciously, even as his stomach rumbled with great insistence. Finally, when he could find nothing wrong with the food, the little black dragonet leaned forward to take a bite--and the bowl vanished!

Snarling, the hatchling again searched for the prankster behind this... and focused his rainbow-hued eyes over the backs of his clutchmates, off of the sands. A great bronze dragon peered intently back at him, his pale hide shimmering just slightly in the light. Lore' thought he detected a trace of a draconic smile against the foreign dragon's lips, but couldn't be sure.

~You want food?~ Lore' was certain that the voice of the sending belonged to the bond. He growled again, certain he could get his way. The bronze dipped his head a little, and the bowl of food appeared before the dragonet again--only a meter off the ground! Lorevyceth glared up at it, and then back to the dragon. He was not going to call attention to himself by scrambling for it.

~What do you want?~ He questioned, his dark voice blunt.

The bronze chuckled, mentally. ~I want you to come with me.~

Lorevyceth reared back, a snarl twisting his tiny muzzle. ~I'd Never bond with the likes of you!~

The tall bronze, from where he sat outside the major hubbub, only chuffed and let his jaw gape slightly at the hatchling's presumption. ~Whatever made you think I'd want to bond a scrap of a dragon like you? I only want to bring you away from here. You know, away from people.~ He tilted his head, a smug shade of blue rippling over his faceted eyes.

The black let the snarl drop from his muzzle, and considered. Free food, free transport away from here, and he didn't have to worry about letting in some snoopy mind? ~Where will you take me?~

~With me, wherever. Eventually to Star City... it's pretty anonymous there. I could see you settling in nicely. But for now, somewhere out of here.~ The bronze unfurled his wings and gestured at the noisy crowd on the sands. ~Sound like a fair deal?~

Lorevyceth thought it over for a moment, ever aware that there was a bucket of food waiting for him just out of his reach. Finally, he gave. ~Fine. Just gimme the food.~

~Great!~ The bronze settled the basket on the ground, where Lore' promptly dug in. ~I'm Chroquanth, by the way.~

Lorevyceth didn't see fit to reply.
