An IHD, or Intelligent Hover Drone, is a spherical robot ranging from four to ten inches in diameter. They hover in the air at any altitude they wish, and are very quick and mobile. The basic IHD model has a single camera/sensor cluster "eye" on the anterior side of its globelike body, and a thick covering of metal-alloy plates around its inner workings. The plates on the underside of the drone can slide open, slipping under the upper plates so that an array of six long, claw-tipped tentacles can be extended from inside for the manipulation of small and/or delicate objects. (Custom IHDs may have other tools instead.) Primarily, however, IHDs act as observers and data storers. They can record anything they see or hear and upload it to another computer via a physical wiring link. While Class C and Class B IHDs can be given a specific gender or be kept neuter, Class A IHDs have a tendency to pick their gender for themselves.
