Physical Description: |
As a man, Ochre towers over most other people. At just under seven feet, his bulk matches his height. In this form he has shoulder-length black hair, though his face is clean shaven. His warm brown eyes peer out from under thick black brows, while his dark lips continually grin over a block-like chin. In his half-man, half-bear form, Ochre is ill-suited for indoor life: because of his eleven-foot height, he is usually forced to duck under doors and to hunch to avoid hitting ceilings. While his black hair and eyes remain the same, the rest of his body sprouts golden brown fur, and his face becomes somewhat more ursine. Coarse black guard hairs give him the appearance of an even wider girth--which is already impressive. His hands, which as a man were thickly nailed mitts, also become more bear-like, as do his feet. He is forced to shuffle in this form, as his legs take on a bowed shape. As a bear, Ochre is perhaps at his most threatening. He's no less massive in this form (perhaps he's more so), and he stands six feet tall while on all fours. His muzzle is strong enough to crush a human's torso in half with one bite. While his face loses the ability to smile, his small, wide-set eyes retain their merry sparkle. Any possessions that Ochre carries in his other forms tend to 'meld' to his hide, leaving the appearance of tattoos under his thick fur. |
Personality: |
Despite his frightening appearance, Ochre is a jovial creature. He belies his ursine nature by enjoying the company of others--healthy or sick. His best medicine is his voice, which while deep, often gruff, is full of healing humor. He doesn't like to fight, but if it comes down to it, he can usually scare others off in his true-bear form. While he's learned many tricks about healing others, (helping people convince themselves that they are healthy, for instance), Ochre has also done a lot of careful studying on poisons and their antidotes, on poultices and setting bones, and even a little bit on surgical processes. He uses these skills when he comes to villages in exchange for food and new supplies, and along the way, he loves to pick up gossip and news. He goes where his feet take him, moving with the seasons. |
