About the Archipelago

While the rest of the area surrounding this realm is hazy and very difficult to penetrate, the archipelago itself is very clear, very easy to arrive at via teleportation or other magical means. It runs in a west-east direction, and though it is composed of many small islands (all of which can be reached by raft, or boat, or by a strong-winded swimmer), if viewed from overhead it's visibly divided in half.

Each half is said to be under the influence of either JKatkina or Dray. Whatever the case, when viewed over time, it's obvious that each island changes above and beyond what the forces of nature have to offer!

The arrangement of the features on JKatkina's end of the Archipelago, to the east, seems to have no rhyme or reason behind it, governed mainly by their patron's whims... and now and then shifting to suit those whims.

Currently JKatkina's landscape is dominated by three types of terrain: steep volcanic mountains, wide sand beaches that sometimes extend inland to take over whole islands and make them into deserts, and wild vegetation everywhere else. The forests that sprawl across these latter in-between parts of the islands is a bizarre mix, taking elements from boreal forests, jungles and rainforests alike to create an indescribable medley of sounds, sights and scents. Paths wend through these forests, most of them Jracini-sized but a few mysteriously bigger, nevermind the almost complete lack of large predators lurking about. Some paths are even paved with cobblestones.

These paths often lead to the second kind of peculiarities in the JKatkina region of the Archipelago: The cities. In a few places across the islands, groups of buildings spring up from the forest and from the dry sands, not large enough to be proper cities but having the feel of ones nevertheless. These cities are human-sized but entirely uninhabited by humanoids; constructed from pale, colorful and obviously nonindigenous stone; and are usually decorated elaborately as if for some festival or other. Jracini live in these towns, too, living out their lives cheerfully among the bright flags and fringes and lights, and bringing life to what might otherwise be very eerie, lifeless scenes.

Of the volcanoes that dot the islands, several are intermittently active... but invariably spew their lava out to sea rather than into the bulk of their respective islands. In this way, the islands are always changing shape here and there, balanced out by the occasional, unexplained remission of parts of islands back into the ocean.

The western stretch of the archipelago, the one under Dray's influence, is currently swathed with a verdant overgrowth of pure jungle greenery. There are elements of ruinous architecture scattered across this section of the archipelago, though most are difficult to find--hidden beneath foliage, lost beneath the waves. Here all the volcanoes seem to be dormant, though if one were to explore across their rocky slopes one would probably find pathways that extend deep into uneven calderas and, on the other side of the ridge, pathways that get lost in the greedy jungle below.

Aside from this, there isn't much else of interest. When the wind blows from higher slopes, there's an almost haunting tune that seems to float from island to island. Many of the Jracini that live here are difficult to find, mischevious, and often lead a merry chase before allowing themselves to be caught up with!

About the Jracini

The Jracini are the main inhabitants of the archipelago, though they vary so wildly in colouration and shape that they might seem like entirely different creatures. All are interbreedable, however, and have primarily similar lifecycles.

Social by nature, Jracini tend to live in small tribes, though they may change tribes throughout their lives. While they will sleep together and often spend time grooming one another, each Jracini of a tribe is self-sufficient and will spend much of a day foraging on its own.

A Jracini is hatched from an egg about the size of a large chicken's egg or a little larger. A Jracini egg can be white, cream or brown, sometimes spattered with darker colours that range the spectrum and even more rarely, spattered with metallic colours. Once hatched, a Jracini can fend for itself but usually has the help of parents and others of a tribe for the first few crucial hours of its life. Brought meat, berries, edible foliage, and anything else that the tribe can find before a hatching, newly hatched Jracini are made to gorge until full, and are then are cleaned and inspected by the tribe, which will take turns watching as they sleep, and eat, and sleep again.

A Jracini reaches sexual maturity very quickly, after only about six months, but reaches full adulthood after about a year. Since Jracini don't go into heat, they can breed at any time. While most Jracini don't take permanent partners, they may have a favorite with which they have many clutches. Many Jracini choose a different mate each time they clutch.

A female Jracini may have between five and ten eggs at a time--usually six or seven. While it takes about a month for the eggs to form, once laid they need to incubate for three months before they will hatch. If the Jracini is living with a tribe, all will share the responsibility of the clutch, but a pair of parents or even a single mother can feasibly look after a clutch, if in a protected place.

Jracini live about twenty years in the wild, although they may live much longer under the protection of an owner! They are usually friendly and will get along with other friendly pets, although if they need to they can fight fiercely, much like a cat. If crowded with too many other pets, a Jracini may run away. Are you interested in breeding a pair of Jracini together? Make sure that you read the Rules before you fill out the form below! You will be able to keep a single Jracini egg from your clutch--Dray and JKatkina will take the rest and distribute them how they see fit!

About the Gods

There are two deities that watch over this archipelago. Both work together to maintain the land and its inhabitants, and while neither seem interested in interacting directly with travelers, there is a place in which travelers can learn more about them.

There is a temple at the center of the archipelago where Jracini seem to cluster, all of them of all shapes and colours. They seem fearless, often watching newcomers with curious expressions, neither friendly nor wary. While the temple is relatively small and demure, the walls are etched with images of red and white, west and east, and markers that show Dray and JKatkina cradling their chosen creatures.

There is also a fair amount of wall-tracery that depicts an altar, often with beams of light flowing down upon it and whatever happens to be on the altar, as well. In the center of this very temple is an altar that looks identical to the ones etched into the wall.

Care to approach the altar and place something upon it? Maybe the etchings are instructions... but who knows what will happen! Read the Rules and fill out the form below!

(You may place one or two items upon the altar. They may be Jracini or not. Whether or not the object is a Jracini, you have to have received it from this site and it has to be paged!)
